DR. JOE WERTZ
Dentist
Dr. Joe Wertz attended the University of Iowa for his undergraduate studies and continued his education at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry where he graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2010. Since graduation, Dr. Joe has continued his study of general dentistry through numerous continuing education courses every year. Dr. Joe’s commitment to dentistry continues with his memberships to the Iowa Dental Association, Dubuque Dental Society, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Chicago Dental Society and Great River Implant Study Club.
Dr. Joe and his wife Moe settled in Dubuque in 2010 and he joined his father, Dr. Tom, and Uncle, Dr. Mike, at Wertz and Wertz Dental Associates. Dr. Joe became a partner at the practice in 2012.
Dr. Joe and his wife have two children, Gus and Madeline.
When Dr. Joe is away from the office during the summer months, you can find him on the waterways of Iowa with his family and friends boating, tubing, skiing, jet skiing, fishing and generally spending time outdoors! In the winter months, Dr. Joe spends his time in his garage “wrenching” on his vintage stand-up jet skis, always attempting to get them running a little faster. While working on his jet skis, his motto is “if it is not broken, fix it until it is!”
DR. MARK SCHEMMEL
Dentist
Dr. Mark Schemmel, a native of Dubuque, attended Saint Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin for his undergraduate studies where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in science in 2014. Following college, Dr. Mark began his dental education at The University of Iowa College of Dentistry and graduated in 2018 with his Doctor of Dental Surgery. Dr. Mark is active in the dental community as a member of the American Dental Association, Iowa Dental Association Dubuque Chapter, where he serves as Vice President, Chicago Dental Society, Dubuque Dental Society, where he serves as Treasurer, and The Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Mark's wife, and his wife Chandler (Flynn) returned to Dubuque after finishing school to set down roots in the town they've both called home their whole lives. They have one daughter, Tatum.
When not in the office, Dr. Mark enjoys spending time traveling with family, watching any and all sporting events, and walking with Chandler and their Goldendoodle, Blanche.
